The Lost Joy of Looking Forward to the Mail

The Lost Joy of Looking Forward to the Mail

There are days when I open my email inbox and feel overwhelmed before I've even read the first message. Do you ever feel this way?

There are emails to answer, so many advertisements to delete, reminders to look at later, and newsletters I genuinely wanted to read but never quite found the time for. My phone buzzes with notifications, text messages, and endless updates, all asking for just a little bit of my attention.

Somehow, this has become normal for us.

But I don't think it's what it's supposed to be like.

In contrast, there is something so refreshing about opening a physical mailbox and finding something that was sent with intention. Not a bill or another stack of advertisements, but an envelope for you, created simply to encourage you.

So many of us are longing for simpler things again. We want actual analog things we can hold in our hands, not digital ones.

We're baking bread instead of grabbing it at the store. We're planting gardens. We're spending evenings on the porch. We're reaching for real books instead of another hour scrolling our phones. Without even realizing it, we're looking for small ways to slow life down.

Receiving real mail feels like part of that same gentle return.

There is something different about holding paper in your hands. You notice the texture. You linger over the words. You tuck a favorite recipe into your recipe box or place an encouraging card inside your Bible. Instead of disappearing with the next swipe of a screen, these little things become part of your home.

That's the heart behind The Simply Still Post.

Each month, I put together a small collection of thoughtful pieces meant to bring a little peace into an ordinary day. A short letter, seasonal inspiration, a recipe to try, a prayer card to keep nearby, and a few simple surprises that remind you to pause and enjoy the season you're living in.

It's never about adding one more thing to your to-do list.

It's about giving yourself permission to slow down for a few minutes.

Make a cup of tea. Sit on the porch. Curl up in your favorite chair. Read a page or two before the day gets busy.

I don't believe we need bigger houses, busier schedules, or more things to buy. I think many of us are simply longing for a gentler rhythm. We're longing for a life where faith, family, home, and simple pleasures still have room to breathe.

If that's what you've been craving too, I'd love to send a little encouragement your way each month.

If your heart has been longing for a slower pace and something beautiful waiting in your mailbox each month, I'd love to welcome you to The Simply Still Post
